6 Careers That Allow You To Work Anywhere In The World

Since the pandemic hit us and disrupted our lives indefinitely, we’ve been taught an important lesson: working from home is always an option.

Now, imagine working from the comfort of your home for a month, and from a small village in Himachal the next. At one point, you’re living it up in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai; the next, you’re off to a quieter, calmer Goa, letting the tides guide you. For those of us in creative career paths, an office space has become a mere obligation; many of us are comfortable being ‘digital nomads’, and we’re making the most of it.

If you’re looking to venture into a career that allows you to live your life outside of the confines of the office space, look no further. Here are 6 jobs that allow you to work from anywhere in the world.

1. Freelance Content Writing

Writing doesn’t require you to come to an office every day. And the best part about freelance writing is that you don’t even have to work for the same clients every day! Content writing is a major career option at the moment, but if you’re uninterested in it as a full-blown career, you can always take it up as a side hustle.

You can start by building your portfolio by writing for different online platforms and publications. Pick a niche that works for you, and get into it. Once you’ve built your portfolio just enough, you can register yourself as a freelancer on websites such as Fiverr, and look for paid gigs. From there on, you can choose to work on any niche that you’re comfortable with.

The more experience you gain as a freelance writer, the more opportunities will open up for you. You can then resort to cold pitching and tapping into your network for more assignments.

Skills Required:

  1. Excellent communication skills
  2. Excellent grasp on your preferred language (English is always in demand, but regional languages are up and coming as well)
  3. Basic knowledge of SEO
  4. Basic knowledge of social media marketing
  5. Basic knowledge of CMS such as WordPress
  6. Networking and negotiation skills

2. Social Media & Digital Marketing

You may be able to live without food for a couple of days, but living without social media seems absolutely ludicrous today.

Social media and digital marketing as career options are booming, and since they’re concentrated, well, online, being in an office isn’t necessary. What you need is an understanding of how social media works, and how to use it to increase a brand’s presence, reach, and impact. There’s no time like the present to get into digital marketing; learn the nitty-gritties, and you’re golden.

To start off as a social media/digital marketing expert, you must have workable proof that you know what you’re doing. There are several hands-on digital marketing and social media management courses available online, so that’s a great start. You can work a full-time job as a digital marketing or social media manager to understand the game, and gradually break away to become a freelancer or consultant. The more experience you have, the better your gigs.
