“Lo and behold it came true”: How to create a vision board that works

From Bollywood’s favourite Ranveer Singh to universe’s favourite Oprah, vision boards are a part of many success stories. While the word on manifestation is spreading like wildfire, the law of attraction has long been doing its magic. Shah Rukh Khan said it, “Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho toh poori qayanaat usse tumse milaane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai.

It’s simple– if you want something, just ask for it and the universe will provide.

While manifestation works on many levels– chants, writing, mediation; vision boards are the real deal. When you create a vision board, you’re basically bringing your dream to paper. And once that happens, reality follows closely.

The vision behind vision boards

A dream board or vision board is a collage of images, pictures, and affirmations of one's dreams and desires, designed to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. It’s basically putting imagery to your dreams and thoughts to bring you closer to everything you hope to achieve.

Even for people who believe in the power of manifestation, vision boards might feel like an extra step. Looking for images, printing them out, cutting them up, and making a messy collage– it’s like we’re back in school. But creating your dream boards is a lot simpler than that. Thanks to applications like Canva, PicMonkey, and Photoshop, you can create your vision board digitally and make a final printout.

While this is the final step, there are a few things you need to do before all the printing and pasting.

Create your own vision board

Step 1: Identify your goals and vision

The first step in making a vision board is identifying your goals and vision. Remember to keep it practical but ambitious. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.

Visualise your goals, and then set a timeline for them. It can be anything between becoming the manager in the next one year, or buying your parents a car in the next three.

Also, picture how you fit into this lifestyle. Affirm that all of this will come true and promise to do your best to achieve all of this.

Make a final list of all your aspirations, and get cracking.

Step 2: Write your goals, and stress on the steps

Before you start designing your board, make a quick list of the measures you need to take to achieve all of your dreams.

For instance, to buy a car, you’ll need to do some extra work to be able to purchase it. To move to your dream city, you’ll have to actively look for jobs there.

Step 3: Start referencing

Next, do what this generation does best– surf the internet. Start referencing a mood, an existing design, or a vibe so you know what your vision board will look like. You can find some inspiration on Google or simply by visiting some online vision board makers for templates.

Step 4: Let the pictures speak

You can use Pinterest, Google, Canva, Pexels, Pixabay, or Unsplash to look for images. Find pictures that look very close to what you want your life to look like. You can also treat them in the same mood or colour vibe for the board to look more cohesive and well put together.

If you want to go a little old-school, don’t shy away from magazines and newspapers for cutouts.

Step 5: Bring it to reality

Once all your images are done, create your vision board. Have fun with it and remember there are no rules.

But don’t forget to leave some space for the all-important steps. They are the backbone of your future goals.

Once your vision board is put together, start working on your dreams while your creation does its magic.
